NBA Sets Up Committee To Review Judgement In Justice Ngangiwa Appeal

In the quest to promote the rule of law and defend the independence of the judiciary President of the Nigerian Bar Association NBA Abubakar Balarabe Mahmoud, SAN, has constituted a Committee to review the judgment of the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division in Appeal No: CA/L/969C/2017 in Hon. Justice Hyeladzira Nganjiwa V. Federal Republic of Nigeria (FRN) which was delivered on 11th December, 2017.

According to a statement signed by the General Secretary of the association, Isiaka Abiola Olagunju, the committee is charge with the with the sole aim of advising the NBA on the appropriate stand(s) to be taken in view of the public commentary being  generated by the judgment.

The panel at the Court of Appeal which was led by Hon. Justice Abimbola Obaseki- Adejumo JCA, had held that arraignment of judicial officers without first obtaining findings of the National Judicial Council is unconstitutional.

The members of the Committee set up by the NBA are:

The Committee is expected to submit its report to the NBA President within one week.
